Horse Trailer Parking Signage Changes at the Dowdy Draw Trailhead

We all know how frustrating it is when you arrive at a trailhead and find cars parked in horse trailer assigned spaces. Our BCHA 2019 survey results expressed concerns among equestrians on just this subject.

Last year we met with OSMP staff to see what could be done. Randy Winter, BCHAs Open Space trails liaison has been working with Allison Ecklund and Ben Verill on ways to improve signage at some of our trailheads. We are happy to report updated signage has been installed at Dowdy Draw.

Horse Trailer Parking Sign at Dowdy DrawThe new collapsible parking bollards and how they work.

  • Before pulling in to the parking space assigned for horse trailers you will need to get out of your vehicle and lower the bollard.
  • After your ride it is important that that you remember to put the bollard back in the up position. This will to ensure that the next horse trailer that arrives will find that space available.

OSMP is hopeful that these bollards will keep cars from parking in horse trailer assigned spaces during high usage times.

Your feedback is welcome!

This new trail signage system is a bit of a test, and Randy and OSMP staff would love to hear your feedback before installing them at other trailheads. Please spread the word and e-mail Randy to let us know how it is working!
