Boulder County Horse Bowl Team Are National Champions

By Mea French

Congratulations to the Boulder County Horse Bowl team as they competed in the 2022 Western National 4-H Roundup Horse Classic in Denver on Saturday, January 8th. The team was there proudly representing Colorado as they brought home the national title by winning every single round in which they played.

They competed against teams from around the country including Nebraska, South Dakota, Georgia, Texas, New Mexico and Mississippi.

The Boulder County Horse Bowl team members include Liz French, Joseph Schmid and Mackenzie Weber with Easy Rider’s 4-H club, Soren Aamot with Blazing Saddles 4-H club, and Sequoia Stark with Critters and Creations 4-H club.

Congratulations to Coach Carmen Porter who had her team very well prepared with an incredible amount of horse knowledge. The team’s sharp skills and quick responses as they buzzed in to answer questions earned them the top spot in the competition. Congratulations also goes out to Donna Pattee who is the Boulder County Hippology coach. Carmen and Donna work together to teach these 4-H members everything there is to know about the horse world.

Earning individual honors were Sequoia, Mackenzie and Liz. Sequoia received 7th overall individual, Mackenzie came in with 5th place overall and Liz took home 1st place overall individual.

Incredible job to this amazing team representing Colorado and Boulder County … and a huge congratulations to every single one of the members and their coaches.

If you know any youth interested in horses or agriculture, now is a great time for them to get involved in the thriving Boulder County 4-H community!
