The positive side of being lame

BCHA would like to introduce our newest business member to the BCHA herd, Anna Mannerfelt. She is the owner of Wired Mustang, a full service digital marketing firm specializing in Equine related businesses. Anna recently sent me this inspiring story to share with our readers:

Howdy BCHA team and members,

I failed big-time in the show jumping ring this year… Reason being—my horse pulled a hind tendon in turnout earlier this year. So, for almost eight months now, I’ve been hand-walking, walking/trotting under tack, laser treating, and even built a special turnout pen, to keep my horse sane. We are on the road to recovery.

If you are a horse owner you know how frustrating this is. All of my budgeted horse show dollars are now in the hands of the veterinarians. Instead of being in my favorite state of mind, on the course chasing ribbons, I have had to change course and focus on rehab for my horse. This is our duty as horse owners. The positive news is that I have bonded with my horse in a deeper and more meaningful way, which I think will be beneficial for us both once we are back on course.

All this made me think of something within the business world, which you may have experienced as well. Last year a lot of businesses became lame, much like we did, in one way or another due to COVID. The level of lameness scale (scale 1-5, where 5 is the most severe) most businesses were operating in the higher numbers if you were “vetted” by the “business veterinarian” (ok I made that title up) but you get the idea.

The good news is that I see most businesses are now down to a level 1, or even a 0 on the “vetted” scale. I see businesses that have bonded with their customers in a much more positive and productive way. I see business owners inventing new products/goods and services to help their customers. I also see business owners feeling the excitement of being back “full throttle” again.

So, being lame with your business or your horse certainly isn’t fun, but it can have a great benefit in the long run!

While I still go to horse shows to support my friends and to feed my passion, I do it from the sidelines and feel positive about the future.

Gallop on friends,

Anna
